HURD, Peter (1904-1984). American artist married to Henriette Wyeth, sister of Andrew Wyeth. His paintings of the American Southwest are known to all but he is well remembered for his controversial portrait of president Johnson for The White House Historical Association. LBJ described the painting as “the ugliest thing I ever saw!”.  Autograph letter signed, one very full page, June 7, 1939, San Patricio, N.M.  Wonderful letter to a friend sending some lithographs, numbered, signed and priced. Hurd wants to give one as a gift. On the verso is a four line P.S. signed “Peter” and a half page of notes by a former owner of this letter. Hurd is very uncommon in handwritten letters and this is an excellent example..................$275.00
