HOPKINS, James R. (1877-1969). Popular American artist known for his figure portraits. Widely exhibited artist in more than a dozen museums. He improved his craft while in Paris and socialized with such great artists as Picasso, Renoir, Monet and Degas. Invitation card from the Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts, addressed to Mrs. Carl H. Valentine, 1901 Tremont Road, Columbus, Ohio. The artist has drawn in pencil a half length pose of Carl Valentine and identified the portrait as “C. Valentine.” On the verso the artist has drawn in pencil, a detailed half length portrait of Mrs. Valentine. He writes her name as “B. Valentine” and has signed the portrait with his initials “J.R.H.” In fine condition................$450.00
