HEPBURN, Katharine (1907-2003). Iconic star of American film and stage. Widely recognized for her sharp wit, New England gentility and fierce independence. A screen legend, Hepburn held the record for most Oscars won by an actress at four. She was nominated for twelve Best Actress Awards, the record for nominations until 2003 when Meryl Streep earned her 13th. In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked Hepburn the "Greatest Actress Of All Time”.
Extremely rare autograph letter signed with her full name. Very few handwritten letters have come on the market signed in full. Autograph letter signed, one full page on her name imprinted letterhead. “Dear Robert Orth (President of Mid-American Film Archive Ltd). “How pretty! What a nice surprise- Many, many thanks for the good thoughts, Katharine Hepburn”. This letter is in response to a birthday gift of flowers. In 1921, Katharine discovered her older brother dead, hanging from the ceiling of his room. For quite some time she adopted Tom’s birthday, November 8, as her own.
