HAYES, Rutherford B. (1822-1893). 19th President of the United States (1877-1881). Autograph letter signed as president, on the imprinted Executive Mansion, Washington stationery. Washington, 30 December 1879. To My Dear Mrs. Dahlgren, (wife of U.S. Navy Officer John Dahlgren who invented the Dahlgren gun). Hayes writes: “I have written the enclosed in the greatest haste. I hope it is not so hurriedly done of to be useless. Sincerely R.B. Hayes.” Discoloration around the edges of the letter from prior matting, not affecting the writing otherwise in very good condition.........................$1,750.00
