HARRISON, William Henry (1773-1841). First Governor of the Indiana Territory. As superintendent of Indian Affairs, he put down a Shawnee uprising at Tippecanoe, Indiana. His presidential slogan was “Tippecanoe and Tyler too.” His most enduring legacy is his series of treaties he negotiated and signed with Indian leaders.
