HARLAN, James
(1820-1899) U.S. Senator from Iowa (1853-1865). Supporter of Abraham Lincoln. Robert Lincoln married Harlan’s daughter. Harlan was appointed Secretary of the Interior and he also served one year under President Johnson. Harlan rode the Lincoln funeral train to Springfield. Autograph note signed in full: “Will the proprietors of the ‘Intelligencer’ and ‘Union’ comply with the within request and send me bill of charges with the return of this letter. James Harlan U.S.S.” In fine condition...............
