The Man Who Made Jewish Colonization Possible
HANKIN, Kenosha (1864-1945). Zionist pioneer. Born in the Ukraine, he settled in Palestine in 1882. As early as 1887, he tried to acquire from the Arabs land in the valley of Jezreel where he first successfully negotiated a land purchase in behalf of the Jewish National Fund in 1909. In 1920, he acquired an extensive track of land making possible large scale Jewish colonization. From 1932 he was Director of the Palestine Land Development Company. Very scarce typed letter signed, one page on the imprinted letterhead of The Eretz-Israel Jewish Agricultural Trust Ltd. Tel-Aviv, 31.3.1940. Not translated.
