German Officer in the Wehrmacht
GUDERIAN, Heinz (1914-2004). German officer in the Wehrmacht and later major general and Inspector of the Panzer Troops in the West. Son of WWII General Heinz Guderian. Guderian was captured at the end of the war and held prisoner until 1947. He returned to the Army and given command of Panzerbattalion 3. Awarded the Iron Cross (1939). Choice content A.L.S. I page Godesberg, 18.5.1978. Guderia writes in part: “...my last charge was First General Staff officer of 116th Panzer Division in the West. I saw Hitler only four times before the war. I did not speak to him..” He goes on to write about inflation and that one dollar was equivalent to four billion Reichmark. Signed “H.
