Best Remembered for his namesake tea “Earl Grey” Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
GREY, Charles (1764-1845). British politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1830-1834. His government brought about two reforms. The Reform Act of 1832 and the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833. EARL Grey tea is named after him. Autograph letter signed, one page, August 6, 1832 just three months before being Prime Minister. He writes about Lord Grey and has much pleasure authorizing you (J. Sykes) to add his name to the list of subscribers to your work….” Signed “C.
