GRASS, Gunther (1927-2015) Widely acclaimed author of plays and numerous articles. Awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature (1999). He served as a soldier in the Nazi Waffen-SS. Born in Gdansk, Poland, formally Danzig, Germany, Educated at the Academy of Art in Dusseldorf, Germany. Grass is considered one of the foremost literary figures of postwar Germany.
