Colonial Administrator, chiefly responsible of founding Nigeria, Africa
GOLDIE, Sir George Dashwood Taubman (1846-1925) British colonial administrator, organizer of a Charter Company (1886) that established British rule on the Niger River and chiefly responsible for the founding of Nigeria, Africa. In 1886, he founded the Royal Niger Company and became governor of the company in the same year. He was knighted in 1887. He pronounced a curse on any of his children should they write about him after his death. During the year of writing this letter he formed the Central Africa Trading Company. Autograph letter signed, one full page, 11, Queens’s Gate Gardens, S.W. 30 October 1876. He writes: “Dear Madam, I could call on you for a few minutes at either 10 or 11 this morning, which is more convenient on you, if you will kindly let me know, Yours faithfully George Taubman Goldie.” A V/G example..................$125.00
