GLENN, John (1921-2016). One of NASA’s original seven astronauts and the first U.S. astronaut to orbit the earth on Feb.20, 1962. His flight on the Friendship 7 orbited the earth three times. Glenn was a U.S. Senator which lasted four terms. T.L.S. on The Glenns, Seabrook, Texas letterhead. No date but circa early 1964. In part: “...with mail arriving up to 600 letters per day... you can appreciate our family dilemma. No matter how good our intention, we cannot write a personal reply to each letter. “....I am at home but must return to the hospital periodically for checkups. My doctors are the finest, and the various treatments which people have been kind enough to suggest or share with me have been referred to them for evaluation and consideration. It helps a lot to know of the many prayers and religious activities on my behalf and I sincerely appreciate your thoughtfulness. My recovery from the “clout-on-the-head” has been just about as the doctors forecast, slow but steady, with the outlook for 100% recovery still several months away, at best. It is disgustingly slow business, but a short stay in the hospital does wonders to change an impatient outlook on things. I am just thankful my injury is probably only a temporary setback for there are so many people I met with more serious and permanent problems. We need to have faith that things seem to work out OK in the long run. It could have been far worse, even though it did come at a most inconvenient time. Meanwhile, back at the bathroom, watch those sliding throwrugs. They’re rough! Very boldly signed “J.H. Glenn, Jr.”
In a P.S. he types: “Although the letter is facsimile, the above signature is not. It is original. Best regards---” In mint condition, never folded, along with the original envelope, postmarked Apr 21, 1984.”...............................$295.00
