Picasso‘s Lover of Ten Years
GILOT, Francoise (1921-2023). French painter, accomplished artist notable in watercolors. She is known for her romantic relationship with Picasso as well as her marriage to scientist Jonas Salk. This long time mistress had two children with Picasso and her painting of her daughter Paloma Picasso sold for 1.3 million dollars at Sotheby’s in London. In 1946 she moved in with Picasso and they spent 10 years together. After their breakup Picasso told art dealers not to purchase her art. He destroyed most of her possessions including her letters from Matisse. Her book Matisse and Picasso A friendship in Art.
