Hamlin Garland ALS to Mary Benjamin Autograph Dealer
GARLAND, Hamlin (1860-1940). American novelist, essayist, poet and short story writer. Won the 1922 Pulitzer prize for “A Daughter of the Middle Border.” Hamlin Garland was named after Hannibal Hamlin who was a candidate for vice-president under Abraham Lincoln. Autograph letter signed, one full page, Sept.13 (NY). To Dear Mrs. Benjamin. He writes in part: “I am sorry to say that I can not return in time by Friday to have you for dinner. We must hope for another timeā¦..” Signed in full. With original hand addressed envelope and a very attractive portrait of Garland in a half length sitting pose.
