- GAGARIN, Yuri. (1934-1968). Russian cosmonaut. Joined the Soviet Air Force in 1957 and in 1961 he became the first man to travel in space. A Hero of the Soviet Union, he shared the Galabert Astronautical Prize with John Glenn in 1963. Gagarin was killed in a plane crash during a training mission in 1968.

To The Cosmos, Gagarin Autobiography, 1961. Printed in Russian. Heavily illustrated. Boldly signed in ink on the front free endpaper with an unusually large signature, “Gagarin" in Cyrillic script. Collector's note in Russian, in pencil, states this book was signed at the Lenin Conference in Moscow 29-30 August 1961, just 4 months after his historic space flight. A fine copy with the very rare dust jacket. Very scarce, only the third book we can locate signed by Gagarin. $2,750.00
