Slip signed by Three Mayors of Washington
FORCE, Peter (1790-1868). American statesman, historian, government official and Mayor of Washington, D.C. (1936-1840). He sold his extensive library to the Library of Congress (1867). It was the largest private library relating to American history that have ever been assembled. In 1843, Force reprinted the W.J. Stone Declaration of Independence on rice paper.
