One of the “Ten Men in the World Most Admired by Americans”

FAUBUS, Orval  (1910-1994).  Served as the 36th Governor of Arkansas (1955-1967). He is best known for his 1957 stand against desegregation of the Little Rock School District during the Little Rock Crisis. He denied a unanimous decision of the United States Supreme Court and ordered the Arkansas National Guard to prevent black students from attending Little Rock Central High School.  President Eisenhower federalized the Arkansas National Guard and ordered them to return to their armories. Eisenhower sent the 101st Airborne Division to Arkansas to protect the black students. Uncommon photograph, 8”x10”, B&W of Faubus sitting at his desk in the Arkansas Governor’s  Mansion. Above his smiling face he has inscribed, signed and dated as: “5-19-’60, To Aaron Dodek, with all good wishes; Orval Faubus Governor.”  In fine condition...............................
