Scarce Signed Cover of a Script for Ironside
EDISON, Thomas A. (1847-1931). American inventor of the electric light, phonograph, typewriter, microphone to name a few. Considered the greatest inventor of the century. A very rare signed photograph, 7.5”x9.5”, in the original photographer’s mount, overall size 12”x14”. Black & White, full length portrait of Edison and his team standing in front of the Edison Laboratory. Photo, taken by Edison with his own copyright, his initials and date “7-16-16” printed near the bottom right of the image. Boldly signed “Thomas A. Edison” at the center of the mount. On the verso is the stamp: “Copyrighted by Thomas A. Edison.” On the evening of December 9, 1914, Edison’s Laboratory located in West Orange, New Jersey was the scene of a spectacular fire. The fire destroyed many of the buildings and laboratory. This photo was taken just a year and a half after the fire. The year 1916 was busy for Edison as on May 5th he received a patent for a phonograph or talking machine. On July 4th, less then two weeks before this photograph was taken, Edison received a patent for the means of recording sound. A most unusual photograph of Edison and his team, especially to find it having his genuine autograph. Light wear to corners of the mount making them rounded.
