ECKENER, Dr. Hugo (1868-1954). German aeronaut; director of German Aerial Navigation Co. (1911); President of Zeppelin Co. (1924); Builder of the Graf Zeppelin in which he circled the earth (1929.) He built and delivered to the U.S. the dirigible “Los Angeles.” In WW1 he trained many military air pilots for the German Army. First Day Cover commemorating the Golden Anniversary of Aviation. Choice cachet of an early flight and a modern aircraft 1903-1953. Affixed is a 6 cent 50th Anniversary Air mail Flight stamp cancelled Dayton, Ohio May 29, 1953.
