JOSEPH, Dov (1899-1980). Israeli statesman, in 1948 during the Israeli-Arab War he was in charge of Jerusalem. On August 2, 1948, he was appointed Military Governor of Jerusalem. Both his daughters fought in the war and the younger was killed in it. Joseph held the position as the first Minister of Interior. He held ministerial positions in nine Israeli governments two different times being Minister of Justice. In 1946 during Operation Agatha, he was arrested and interred along with several other Zionist Leaders including Itzhak Gruenbaum, Kahane, Olmert, Rabin, Remez and Sharett.
