Marilyn Monroe's First Husband
DOUGHERTY, Jim (1921-2005) American police officer, trainer of Special Weapons and tactics. First husband of Marilyn. In school he met Norma Jeane Baker, and she had a crush on him. They began dating in 1941 and were married on June 19, 1942, just after Monroe’s 16th birthday. Following their marriage, Monroe dropped out of high school and became a housewife. While Dougherty was a detective he broke a plot to kidnap actor James Garner. Unlike Monroe’s second marriage to Joe DiMaggio, Dougherty never visited Monroe’s grave as it was too painful.
