DOMINIO, Fats (1928- ) American rock & roll pianist, singer and songwriter. One of rock & rolls earliest stars. He attracted National attention in 1949 with “The Fat Man” on Imperial Records. “The Fat man” sold one million copies and is widely regarded as the first rock & roll record to do so. Domino sold more records than any other black rock & roll star of the 1950’s. In 1956 his “Blueberry Hill” was #1 on the R&B charts for 11 weeks and was his biggest hit. It sold more than 5 million copies in 1956-57. Domino appeared in two films even though he dislikes traveling. He did not appear for his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nor did he accept an invitation to go to The White House. George W. Bush traveled to Domino’s home and replaced a lost medal. Domino who lived in New Orleans, refused to evacuate his home before Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. Some thought Domino was killed and they spray painted his home “RIP Fats, You’ll Be Missed”.
