Inventor of Bubble Gum
DIEMER, Walter (1904-1998). Diemer worked for the F.H. Fleer Corporation and had worked an experimented on the gum project for over a year. He invented Bubble Gum in 1928. Gum color became pink as it was the only food coloring found in the factory. Three months later there were imitators as Bubble Gum became the worlds biggest selling 1 cent confection. Walter Diemer taught the salesmen how to blow bubbles. Diemer died on his 94th birthday. A Saturday Night live skit joked that his body was found stuck under a movie theatre seat. Collecting classic bubble gum cards is one of the world’s greatest hobbies. In 1933, Goudy Gum Co. was the first to put baseball cards with bubble gum. Topps started in 1950 and in 1952 began to place bubble gum in with the baseball cards. That set contained the Mickey Mantle rookie card. Typed quotation signed on a 3”x5” card. “Why Bubble Gum Is Pink” “I realized I’d forgotten to put any coloring in the gum. I remedied my mistake the very next day, when I made a second super batch. Pink food coloring was the only one I had at hand. And that’s the reason ever since, all over the world, bubble gum has been pink.” Boldly signed in full “Walter E. Diemer.” Simply fantastic..........................SOLD
