Uncommon Jefferson Davis as Secretary of War
DAVIS, Jefferson (1808-1889). Graduate of West Point and served in the Mexican War. Entering politics, he campaigned for a successful presidential candidate Franklin Pierce. For this he was rewarded with the cabinet post of Secretary of War. 23rd Secretary of War (1853-1857). President of the Confederate States of America. Signature on a slip “Jeffn. Davis” adding in his hand “Sec of War.” Not common in this form. Together with a COA from American Historical Guild. In fine condition.........$575.00
