Noted Forger of Autographs
DARVICK, Herman (1946- ) Noted and admitted forger of autographs of the presidents of the United States from Rockville Center, New York. In his children’s book on autographs published in 1981 Darvick wrote an inscription to a fellow collector: “...you will never be able to guess which autographs in this book were actually signed by me...” Darvick was a former president of the Universal Autograph Collector’s Club and his membership was revoked for serious ethics violations. He was placed in their “Hall of Shame” for over 20 years. Darvick sold numerous non genuine items during his auctions and has refused to give refunds as he claims not to be presently in the autograph business. This is untrue as he is selling on eBay with thousands of feedbacks. In the autograph community he has been called “The Father of the Worthless Certificate of Authenticity.” Darvick has been shunned by many in the autograph hobby. After many attempts to be re-instated, he is not allowed to bid at auction in the most active autograph auction in the United States. Additional information can be found on Herman Darvick on “Ripoff Report” and “Halls of Shame.”
A not so funny genuine forgery from the hand of Herman Darvick. On a small slip Darvick has written: “Dear Lee (Harvey Oswald)- 11-20-63
We’ll be in Dallas on Friday. Don’t forget our deal! Lyndon B. Johnson.” Obtained personally from Herman Darvick at a UACC show. Together with a small color photograph of Herman Darvick.
Signatures of autograph forgers are quite scarce and somewhat desirable. Many of the forged signatures of Lincoln become available from time to time but the signatures of the forgers themselves are quite scarce. Signatures of forgers are collectable such as Joseph Cosey, Eugene Field II, Charles Weisberg, Henry Cleveland, John Laffite, Harry Sickles and Henry Woodhouse but are very difficult to obtain. Signatures of the Mormon Forger Mark W. Hoffman are very desirable and costly. This LBJ Darvick forgery ........$75.00
