Dalai Lama, SCARCE Signed Topps 2008 Trading Card
DALI LAMA XIV (1935- ) (Tenzin Gyatso). Tibetan religious leader. In 1939 he was recognized as the 14th Dalai Lama in a public declaration. During the 1959 Tibetan uprising he fled to India where he currently lives as a refugee. He is the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize (1989). In 1996 the Chinese Communist Party reinstated the total prohibition of any photograph of the 14th Dalai Lama. Authorities in Tibet have banned photographs in public places and monasteries. Plain clothes policemen went to hotels and restaurants and ordered all pictures of the Dalai Lama to be removed. His current net worth is $150 million.
