Defender of George Custer’s Legacy
CUSTER, Elizabeth B. (1842-1933). American author, wife of Brevet Major General George A. Custer, most famous widow of the Indian Wars. Despite his numerous military campaigns in the Civil War and on the great plains as commanding officer of the U.S. Cavalry she spent most of her time with him. She has been portrayed by a number of actresses in1940’s films including Olivia de Havilland in “They Died with their Boots On.” Autograph letter signed, one full page, she writes: “Permanent address, Bronxville, N.Y. Dec.8th, Mutual Benefit Ins. Co., Gentlemen, It would be a convenience to me if the company would pay the yearly annually to my order Second National Bank 28th & 5th Av The Provident Co…Very truly yours, Elizabeth B. Custer.” In very fine condition. Together with a nice postcard portrait of Elizabeth Custer. Nice pair for framing............$550.00
