CROSSFIELD, Scott (1921-2006). Pioneer & legend in Test flights and Space flight. In 1953 he became the first pilot to fly at twice the speed of sound. He helped pave the way for the space shuttle. Flying to Virginia from Alabama in a single engine plane, he crashed and was found dead. He is inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame. Choice autograph letter signed, one full page, Dec. 6, 1986. He writes: “I am not much of a philosopher but I do know why old cliches endure to be “old” cliches.
