WWI French Ace-Nicknamed “Lindbergh of France”
COSTE, Dieudonne (1896-1973). French aviator, Ace in WWI with a confirmed 8 victories. He was the first to fly So. Atlantic from shore to shore in 1927. The next year he flew from Tokyo to Paris in less than 6 days. With aviator Maurice Bellonte they made the first non-stop westward crossing from Paris to New York. In Sept.1930, they toured America and was honored at a luncheon hosted by President Hoover. Air Mail cover honoring Coste/Bellonte Goodwill visit to Indianapolis in the “Question Mark”.
