CLAXTON, LT. W.G. WW1 Ace credited with 37 Victories. BOWMAN, G.H. Major, R.A.F., Commanding Officer No. 41 Squadron. WW1 Ace credited with 32 Victories. Combat In The Air Report, 13 August 1918. Army Form W.3348. Time 8AM. Height 4,0000 ft. Type of Aeroplane: S.E. Sa. FS910. Armament: 1 Vickers, I Lewis, Pilot: Lt. W.G. Claxton. Locality: Cappy - Frise. Whilst on O.P. at 8-0am. I observed 1 E.A. 2 seater, Halberstadt, at 4,000 ft over Cappy, I went after him and fired 100 rds. At 75 yds range from behind without effect. I zoomed up and dived on E.A. from above and fired remained of Lewis and 100 Vickers, whereupon he went down in a series of stalls and sideslips until I lost sight of him in the midst over Frise. Later at 8-45am I saw a hostile balloon E. of ESTREES at 500ft., but by the time I was in a position to dive balloon had been pulled down so I returned. Hand signed in pencil by W.G. Claxton as Lieut., R.A.F. and Commanding Officer G.H. Bowman, Major R.A.F. During WW!, the combined victories of both Claxton and Bowman are 69 aerial victories. A remarkable document in fine condition except for two small file holes in the left margin. This could be the highlight of any WW1 aviation collection..........................$1,100.00 |
