COLBY, Leonard W. (1848-1925). He joined the 8th Illinois Infantry as a Private (1863-65) and was wounded in the siege of Mobile. He captured a Confederate Flag in the charge at Ft. Blakely, Al. He served in the Sioux and Cheyenne Indian Wars. From 1887-96 he was a Brigadier General. In 1890, the U.S. 7th Cavalry massacred a band of Lakota Indians at Wounded Knee. After a 4 day blizzard Colby found a Indian baby wrapped in its dead mother’s arms. He kidnapped the baby and adopted it. In 1897 he mustered, armed and equipped 25,000 volunteers for the establishment of a Cuban Republic. Served in the Spanish/American War. Choice signature on a card................ $57.50
