COLFAX, Schuyler (1823-1885). Vice-President of the United States under U.S. Grant. He led the effort to pass the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which abolished slavery. He was implicated in the Credit Mobilier Scandal, and as a result ended his career. A wonderful autograph letter signed, one page HR (House of Representatives) May 2, 1864. To Hon Brutis Clay. Colfax sends thanks “for your compliance with a request, I send you enclosed in return...” Complete with an attractive /ornate 38th Congress House of Representative cover filled out in Colfax’s hand and free franked “Schuyler Colfax, Speaker H of R.” Both items in V/G-Fine condition ..................................$275.00
