Last Survivor to Work on Mt. Rushmore
Clifford, Don “Nick” (1921-2019) Clifford was the youngest of 360 individuals hired to work on Mt. Rushmore. He was a driller and carver assigned to work on Lincoln and Roosevelt. He was paid 55 cents an hour. Many called him a “Rock Star.” His book "Mount Rushmore Q&A." Sixty-nine pages, 12th printing, revised. Paperback, color covers, many illustrations, some in color. He was 17 when the monument’s sculptor, Gutzon Borglum, recruited him to play for a baseball team Borglum was forming. Oh, and he gave him a job on the mountain.
