Col. N. Rochester- the Namesake of the City Rochester, New York
CLAY, Henry (1777-1852). Seventh Speaker of the House, 9th Secretary of State and unsuccessfully ran for president 1824, 1832 and 1844. Free-franked mailing envelope, 3.25”x5” addressed by the hand of Henry Clay to “Col. N. Rochester, Rochester, N.York.” Franked in the upper right corner “Free H.Clay.” Cancelled “Wash City Dec. 13.” Note on verso states “Dec. 1826.” In November 1803, three men purchased 100 acres, one of the men was Col. N. Rochester, the namesake of the city. Together with a steel engraved portrait of Henry Clay and a COA from American Historical Guild, a member of “PADAH.” In very good condition.........$450.00
