His Uncle Was Crazy Horse, Defeated Custer’s Cavalry
Chief Red Fox (1870-1976). Sioux Indian Chief. His uncle Crazy Horse was killed by U.S. Army Soldiers after he defeated Custer’s Cavalry. In 1893, Buffalo Bill visited the Pine Ridge Reservation to recruit Native Americans to perform in his Wild West Show. He asked Chief Red Fox to join him and appear at the Chicago World’s Fair. Chief Red Fox was a translator and worked with Buffalo Bill for many years. During 1905, Chief Red Fox “scalped” King Edward VII during a stagecoach robbery scene in a Wild West Show performance in London. Chief Red Fox appeared in 14 early silent movies. Besides Buffalo Bill, Chief Red Fox was friends with Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Theodore Roosevelt, Jack London, Will Rogers and King Edward VII. His desirable book: “The Memoirs of Chief Red Fox”, McGraw Hill Book Co. 1971, fourth printing. Two hundred-twenty pages, illustrated. Very boldly signed “Chief Red Fox” on the half title page.
