One of a Kind?
CHENEY, Dick (1941- ) 46th Vice-President of the United States. Gun enthusiast and hunter
WHITTINGTON, Harry M. (1927-2023) American lawyer business and one time friend of Dick Cheney.
On February 11, 2006, then 78-year-old Texas attorney was out hunting quail with Vice President Dick Cheney. In what is said to be an accident, Cheney fired his shot gun at a quail but sprayed Wittington in the face, neck and chest with birdshot. Wittington then suffered a heart attack. Washington Post claimed that “Dick Cheney didn’t apologize to the man he shot.” Chaney has said: “it was one of the worst moments of my life.” Very early and uncommon cover with a fine cachet “Presidents of the United States Building the First White House.” Affixed is a four- and one-half cent postage stamp of The White House, cancelled Washington, D.C. July 11, 1938. Signed years later by Dick Cheney. On the verso it is signed: “Harry M. Wittington 11-16-16.” Signatures of Wittington are quite scarce as he was not a friend to autograph seekers. These two autographs on the same piece just might be unique! Near fine condition..................$175.00
