Mussolini Had Him Banned From Radio
CASTELNUOVO-TEDESCO, Mario (1895-1968). Italian Jewish composer. In 1926 he premiered his opera “La Mandragola”. In 1938 Mussolini had him banned from the radio and performances of his works were canceled. The composer worked on scores for 200 films for major Hollywood studios including Bela Lugosi’s “The Return of the Vampire” and Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None”. AMuQs, the composer writes one full line of music on printed music paper, measures 3.5”x9” from his famous opera “La Mandragola”. Inscribed, signed and dated July 17, 1944.
