CARTER, Jimmy (1924- ) 39th President of the United States.  One of his major accomplishments was to help negotiate peace between Israel and Egypt.
Collector’s letter to Carter, in part: “...you know my uncle Dick ‘Lefty” O’Neal the only White, Negro League Baseball Player....who are your favorite baseball players in the Negro League…was there a Negro League in Plains...” Carter writes at the bottom of the letter using black ink: “Jackie: Lefty is a fine man- We never  had a Negro team in Plains, and (Carter switches to a pen with blue ink) Satchel Paige & Josh Wilson were my favorites- Best wishes Jimmy C.”
Jimmy Carter typically signed his name this way on handwritten letters. Dick O’Neal was the only person to cross baseball’s black color line and holds the distinction of being the only white baseball player to pitch for two teams in the Negro Leagues (1972-75). In 2012 O’Neal was guest speaker at the Presidential Jimmy Carter Historical site in Plains, Georgia. Together with the original envelope postmarked Atlanta, GA 17 February 2012..................$1500.00
