CARON, George R. (1919-1995). Tail Gunner on the Enola Gay. The only person on the plane to witness and photograph the bomb blast over Hiroshima. Very lengthy autograph letter signed, two pages signed “George.” June 9, 1992 he writes in part: “...I’ve been literaly clobbered with mail....seems I end up making pen pals all over the country....I’m eating my heart out your 1.5 blocks from a beach and was on a cruise. Maybe I can take you upon your invitation-like telling my wife I’m going to Baskin Robbins for a malt and just keep driving S.E. When I mentioned working on jalopies I meant the cars...I fix what I can and if I can’t, I have a mechanic friend who won’t take me to the cleaners.” He writes several lines about autographed items. He goes on to say; “I’m enclosing a picture for you taken on 9/91 when our B-29 was in Denver. I get to fly on her every chance I get. I’m listed as a crew member but can’t afford to go on time with her around the U.S. In a P.S. he writes: “If I visited the beach, I’d be checking string bikinis and forgetting why.”..............$95.00
