BYRD, Robert C. (1917-2010) American politician and musician. Democratic U.S. Senator for over 50 years. (1959-2010). He organized and was leader of a local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan during the 1940’s. He later described it as “the greatest mistake I ever made.” Byrd held the position of President Pro Tempore four times which placed him 3rd in line of presidential succession. Very uncommon portrait, 8”x10” of Byrd sitting at his desk as Majority Whip. The U.S. Capitol Building can be seen in the distance. Inscribed: “With kind regards to Richard Wayne Butler, Esq. Sincerely Robert C. Byrd.” A wonderful vintage example. Verso states this photo was signed in 1953. In fine condition.....................$110.00
