BURNSIDE, A.E. (1824-1881). Union General who allowed Lee’s escape at Antietam. As head of the Army of the Potomac he saw it crushed at Fredericksburg. Governor of Rhode Island. Autograph letter signed, on the imprinted U.S. Senate Chamber, Washington stationery. May 28, 1880. Fine one page example.
