BURNS, William J. (1861-1932). American detective. Director of the Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Department of Justice (1921-24) (predecessor of the FBI). Founder and President of Wm. J. Burns detective Agency. Detective magazines published “true” crime stories based on his exploits. Typed letter signed, one page, on his ornate name imprinted stationery, July 30, 1911 to Mr. H. McClure of McClure’s Magazine. A very interesting letter asking that a close friend be interviewed for a job and asking for the results of that interview... ” Now Harry, I cannot tell you how interested in Mrs. Dorrance I am and I will await with some anxiety the result of her interview with you.” Some minor wear along a corner otherwise in V/G to fine condition.
