Double Signed Photograph
BUNKER, Chang & Eng (1811-1874). The original Siamese Twins, joined at the waist. They were Chinese and were discovered swimming in Siam by an American. They traveled to the United States and Europe beginning in 1929. They married Sarah and Adelaide Yates with whom they had 22 children between the two. Chang and Eng died in 1874 at the age of 63. Chang preceded Eng in death by about two and a half hours. An autopsy indicated Chang died of a blood clot in the brain and indications are that Eng died of shock. Manuscript letter signed, Mount Airy, N.C., Dec. 18th (n.y.). To J. Brown. They write: “We have been ill ever since our return from Europe and one of us-Chang-cannot use his hand so as to write. Eng writes for both, Chang & Eng Bunker.” From the noted collection of John Brown, Jr. The Bunker’s are scarce in any form and quite rare in letter form. In fine condition along with a portrait of the Bunker’s and a magazine article about a Bunker family reunion........SOLD
