Philips. “Herewith enclosed, you will receive a Commission appointing you together with Richard Jones and William Minor, Inspector of the Penitentiary in the District of Columbia, the receipt of which you will be pleased to acknowledge. I am Sir, respectfully, your obedient servant, James Buchanan.” In fine condition with a choice signature of James Buchanan. Buchanan is the only president to have not been married. He is noted for the Utah War and admitting Minnesota, Oregon, and Kansas to the Union. On this date, May 11, President Polk told Congress that Mexico has invaded our territory.
