BRANDEIS, Louis (1856-1941). Appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court by Woodrow Wilson. Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court (1916-1939). The controversy surrounding his nomination to the court caused the Senate Judiciary Committee, for the first time in history, to hold a public hearing. Four months passed between Wilson’s nomination and the Senate’s final confirmation. He became the first Jewish person on the high bench. He devised the savings bank insurance plans. Brandeis is featured on a U.S. Postage Stamp. Autograph letter signed, one page on the imprinted Supreme Court letterhead.
