BOLTON, James (1832-1916). Machinist who headed the Chicago branch of Singer Manufacturing Company. He invented the widely popular Singer New Family Sewing Machine, one of the most popular of the 19th century Singer sewing Machines. Autograph letter signed, The Singer Manufacturing Company, Chicago, January 24, 1871. To the Singer Companies corporate office in New York. Bolton is placing orders for 25 #2 Cloth Machines adjusted with #5 Shuttle along with iron stands for all the above machines.
