- Rare
Autographed Note Signed, at the
bottom portion of a fan's letter requesting a signed golf ball,
no place or date, but circa early to mid-1950s. Reads:
-
-
- "I haven't been able to
play golf for 5 years
therefore have no golf balls.
Hope enclosed will do
Bob Jones".
Handwritten letters from Jones's early years are few and far
between. Letters from later in his life, after he was struck
with illness, are virtually non-existent. In 1948, Jones would
come face to face with the greatest challenge of his life. Suffering
from severe back and neck pain, tests showed he had bone growths
on three cervical vertebrae. Eventually, he was diagnosed with
syringomyelia, a rare and degenerative disease of the central
nervous system. Paralysis first required Jones to use a cane,
then leg braces, and finally a wheelchair.
-
- Accompanied with an 8 in. by 10 in. black
and white photograph of Jones golfing. Letter shows normal age
toning and cross-folds. Overall, very unique in this form. $4,750.00
