Architect for Completion of Buckingham Palace, the Great Facade facing the Mall and in 1834 designed the Government House in Sydney, Australia
BLORE, Edward (1787-1879) Architect and antiquary, landscape artist. Most notable for the completion of the design of Buckingham Palace. During 1847, he returned to the palace and designed the great facade facing the Mall thus enclosing the central quadrangle. As a recognized establishment architect Blore was involved in many other projects related to the British Empire. He designed St. James Palace in London, restored the Salisbury Tower at Windsor Castle, known for his work in Westminster Abbey and his designs for Trinity Hospital, Lamberth Castle, Crom Castle, St. Johns Church, St. Peters Church. Included is the Government House in Sydney, Australia. He designed the house in 1834 in the form of a Gothic castle. Autograph letter signed, one very full page, 56 Welbeck Street, 13 December 1825. Writing to a J.B. Nichols of Westminster saying in part that he has never received “my small paper copy of the last volume of the History of Durham…” Signed “Edw. Blore. Small piece one inch by three quarter’s inch torn from bottom of fourth page, not affecting the appearance of the first page otherwise a very good scarce letter.............................. $575.00
