Novelist Remembered for Lorna Doone
BLACKMORE, Richard D. (1825-1900). British novelist, best remembered for Lorna Doone. Autograph letter signed, one page, Leddington, Midd. Dec. 16, 1882. He writes: “Your letter is a very kind one but apt to increase one’s vanity, one thing that grows without fostering. No history of the Doones, or of the great John Ridd has yet been written, so far as I can discover. In truth I may say that no one has tried to put together the traditions about them except from yours very truly, R.D.
