BLACHFORD, Samuel. (1820-1893). American Jurist, nominated by President Chester Arthur to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He held this position from 1882 until his death in 1893. Very uncommon autograph letter signed, one very full page to Judge Woodruff. Dated January 21, 1871. He asks the Judge when was your opinion on a certain case in the Northern District given. He adds: “who were the respective counsel?” He continues: “Have you finished using vols 7&8 Internal Revenue record which I sent to you containing Judge Nelson’s opinion in the Callicott...
